League of Legends Player Count by Region: Global Breakdown

League of Legends remains one of the most popular competitive video games on the planet. A favourite among eSports tournaments, the game has grown to hold iconic status. Despite having a presence across every major region in the world, a few stick out for having a much larger concentration of players than others. In a nutshell, here’s how LoL players break down by region around the globe.
Oceania Has a Smaller Following But Australia Provides a Stable Presence
The Oceania region has grown into one of the key markets for the global gaming industry. However, the region’s tastes tend to vary by country. According to sources like RiftFeed, Oceania accounted for over 2.7 million active players in 2024. That’s no small feat considering the region’s entire population still hovers under 50 million people in total.
Australia accounts for the bulk of LoL players, with some 2 million of Oceania’s total players coming from there alone. This is a testament not just to the nation’s love of gaming but also what a major commercial player it is in the world. Despite boasting Oceania’s highest concentration of LoL players, Australia is far more renowned for other types of gaming. While video gaming is a huge draw for locals, Aussies are particularly fond of iGaming, with gambling often being a fixture of the culture there. When it comes to playing pokies online, Australians tend to flock to these sites in far greater numbers. According to Australian research, more than one-third of Australians (6.6 million people) play online pokie games. Attracted by modern options like fast withdrawals, crypto betting, and player bonuses, this type of gaming far eclipses Australia’s love for League of Legends.
East Asia Continues to Dominate Player Numbers
While regions like Oceania may be punching above their weight, no region dominates League of Legends, or competitive gaming in general, the way Asia does. For LoL specifically, China remains the Mecca. According to Turbosmurfs, industry tracking consistently places China’s active League of Legends population above 70 million monthly users. That number is spread across multiple domestic servers.
When it comes to global eSports dominance, South Korea leads the charge. Gaming culture is like a religion there, and it shows in the number of gaming champions the nation consistently churns out. Estimates suggest there are around 20 million active LoL players in South Korea. However, despite lagging behind China by some distance, the type of engagement tends to be more exceptional on average.
On that front, there are several million active ranked accounts on the Korean server. The nation’s exceptional eSports industry and general reverence for competitive gaming make it one of the most dynamic regions for LoL in the world. High-speed broadband and terrific digital infrastructure make it a gamer’s paradise.
Meanwhile, Vietnam has also quietly emerged as another growing region for LoL. In 2025, a report overseen by the Vietnamese eSports Association found that the country has around 28 million eSports players in total. Due to its popularity there, League of Legends makes up a significant part of this number.
Europe and North America Provide Long-Term Balance
As it is with most major competitive gaming markets, Europe has a stable LoL presence despite lagging behind Asia in the competitive playing charts. Europe’s western server alone supported over 30 million players at its peak. From that number, millions of ranked players actively participated each season. The usual suspects for gaming mostly contribute to these numbers. Places like the UK, Spain, and France usually sport the most players. However, the number of Nordic players has also been steadily growing in recent years.
In total, Europe offers between 20 and 25 million active LoL players a year. The numbers constantly vary from country to country. However, as a whole, Europe consistently remains one of the world’s largest LoL hubs. With a wide range of tastes growing to include everything from genres like cozy games to casual games like Candy Crush, League of Legends has done well to gain such a foothold there amid all the competition.
Surprisingly, North America presents a different profile. For one, player density is lower than in Europe or East Asia. That being said, engagement remains steady and consistent. While the two regions dominate the numbers for many other games, for LoL, the USA and Canada combined have around 16 to 19 million players.
Latin America and Emerging Regions Continue to Expand
One of the best things about games like League of Legends is how it has been able to crack markets in developing regions. To that end, according to AtheloGroup, Africa and Latin America represent some of the fastest-growing regions for LoL player growth. In Latin America, Brazil leads the continent, with estimates suggesting more than 13 million players across its servers.
Beyond Latin America, Turkey and parts of the Middle East have built notable player bases. Turkey’s server alone has hosted several million active players, supported by a dedicated professional league and strong regional identity. These regions continue to add depth to the global League of Legends ecosystem through steady participation and rising viewership.
