League of Legends: Eternals Champion System all you need to know

By LOLValue Team · April 14, 2024

Champion mastery and flashy outplays on the battlefield are what League of Legends is all about.

There’s no better feeling than killing your laner and flashing your mastery level or a funny emote as a sign of disrespect.

That being said, there’s no better way to show that you’re the master of your craft than flexing your champion Eternals.

Eternals - the basics

What are Eternals?

Eternals are a feature that tracks and represents your in-game achievements and mastery on a specific champion.

These stat trackers are unlockable from level 1 and they infinitely track and add up your accomplishments after purchasing.

The type of Eternal you acquire determines the statistics it tracks.

To put things into perspective, some Eternals track metrics like champion takedowns and structure destroyed while others celebrate champion-specific feats such as successful hooks for a champion like Thresh.

Eternals are unlockable in sets that display 3 specific achievements and they’re present in 2 forms in League of Legends, each one differing in terms of features and cost.

Eternals features

The best aspect of Eternals is the fact that they allow you to flex your champion achievements and milestones in several places.

They’re displayed on your public profile along with your highest champion masteries, highlighting your in-game skills and prowess.

Additionally, Eternals’ stats are displayed in the loading screen and on the death screen of your opponents.

Eternals also celebrate your statistical milestones and personal bests.

Once you’ve reached a special milestone on a specific Eternal, an animation will pop up to all players in-game, publicly announcing your achievement.

Last but not least, reaching 15 milestones in a single Eternal set provides you with a unique upgrade to your champion mastery emote.

Types of Eternals

Starter Series Eternals

The Starter Eternals, much like the name suggests, serve as an introductory form of Eternals given their availability and features.

The functionality is somewhat limited as these Eternals only display the number of takedowns, structures destroyed, and epic monsters killed on any given champion.

However, they boast all of the basic Eternals features such as the profile and loading screen display paired up with milestone rekindling, making the Starter Eternals a neat addition given their availability.

Series I and II Eternals

Unlike the previous, these Eternals allow you full personalization of your achievements by measuring and displaying unique stats.

For example, if you’re a Yasuo player, these Eternals measure how many projectiles you’ve blocked with Yasuo’s wind wall.

There are currently two series of Eternals for each champion, both of whom are unique in terms of stats and milestones they track.

Another unique aspect of these Eternals is their visual representation as they’re divided into 6 categories based on the playstyle they support.

There are 6 unique types of Eternals, those being:

  • The Warden (CC-ing opponents)
  • The Protector (protecting yourself and allies in combat)
  • The Empress (outplaying your opponents)
  • The Trickster (winning through deceit and chaos)
  • The Warrior (repeatedly killing the enemies)
  • The Guide (supporting your allies and leading to victory)

Every Eternal demands a unique strategic approach in order to excel in its associated category.

Dedicating time and effort to complete the Eternals’ tasks will rekindle them though, unlocking their true appearance and milestone rewards in the process.

How to unlock Eternals?

In-store purchasing

Starter Series

The Starter Eternals cost no real money as they are fully obtainable through blue essence, each costing 2500 BE per champion.

However, the best way to obtain the free Eternals for all champions is by purchasing the entire Starter Series set for 14750 BE which unlocks all current and future Starters that will be released.

Premium Eternals

Unlike the previous, Series I and II Eternals are both locked by a paywall as they cost 600 RP per champion for a single Series set.

They’re also unlockable through a bulk purchase method though, costing 6400RP total for a single Series which covers all future champion releases.

With every release of a new Eternal Series, the first few weeks come with a discount for the entire Eternals store, reducing the price of the old Series by 60% and the new one by 30%.

If you want to unlock the unique Eternals but don’t want to spend any money, don’t fret, since there are a few methods of obtaining the paid Eternals without spending a dime.

These capsules contain 2 random shards for paid Series Eternals as well as 200 OE that can be used in Hextech crafting.

The shards are fairly affordable and easily unlockable, costing only 300 OE, and providing 120OE if you’re simply planning on disenchanting them.

There are several ways you can obtain Eternal capsules, all of which reward you for consistent dedication.

Ranked milestones

Riot rewards you for your dedication to playing ranked in a certain split by handing out rewards based on your split points.

All of the rewards associated with split points are fairly easy to get as they only require you to continuously participate in ranked games.

Among these rewards is an Eternals capsule that contains the paid versions of these stat-trackers.

Given these rewards reset with each split, you can get up to two free capsules per season just by grinding ranked.

Event missions

Limited-time events and occasions are often paired with missions that include valuable cosmetic rewards like skin shards and summoner icons.

Among these rewards are Eternals capsules as well which is why you should look out for any new missions in your mission tab.

Event passes

Every event pass grants you capsules, regardless of whether you purchase the premium version or not.

Currently, the pass consists of two tiers that offer Eternal capsules.

At tier 30, you receive a free Series I capsule, and at tier 34, premium pass holders are rewarded with a Series II capsule.

Victorious skin

With every Victorious skin that gets handed out at the end of the split, Riot also awards you with a free Series I set corresponding to the champion.
