Lol Mythic and Prestige Skins: All you need to know
By LOLValue Team · April 6, 2024
Skins are the visual pillars of a champion’s identity in League of Legends, allowing players to personalize their champion’s appearance based on preference.
Over the years, Riot has made skins much more available to the average user, mostly through Hextech crafting and Prime subscriptions.
However, there are certain skins in the game whose exclusiveness, high price, and limited availability cause everyone to raise an eyebrow whenever they grace the Summoner’s Rift.
What are mythic skins?

In League of Legends, Mythic skins are some of the most covetable and unique ones available in the game, only lacking behind ultimate skins in terms of in-game rarity and general desirability.
These skins are extremely well-designed and stand out in terms of their visual, sound effects, and animation, even when compared to epic and legendary skins.
Mythic skins are only available for a limited period and Riot always releases them in thematic visual skin lines that define and alter their appearance.
Some of the most notable Mythic skin themes include the Hextech, Ashen, and Crystalis Motus skin line.
Mythic variant skins

In 2023, Riot released a new sub-archetype of Mythic skins named the Mythic variants.
These skins represent the pinnacle of exclusivity and rarity as they’re extremely difficult to obtain, especially since they’re available only during a single in-game event.
There are several methods you can use to obtain a Mythic variant skin:
- Getting lucky with a capsule (1% chance of opening a Mythic variant skin)
- Opening 30 capsules throughout the event (the 30th attempt of opening guarantees a
- Mythic variant skin)
- Re-roll it (less than 0.05% chance of re-rolling)
Reading through these options may leave you sour-faced once you’ve realized how much money you would have to spend to unlock one of these skins.
To put things into perspective, unless you’re very lucky with lootbox opening, you would have to spend 22.500RP (over 200$) to open 30 of these capsules, making Mythic variant skins by far the most expensive ones in the game’s history.
What are Prestige skins?

Prestige skins, much like Mythic skins, are among the rarest and most exclusive skins in League of Legends, which is further exemplified by their inclusion in the Mythic rarity skin tier.
However, Prestige skins are much different when compared to Mythic skins in terms of their concept and design.
Prestige skins, rather than being unique skin lines, represent advanced versions of already-existing skins in the game.
These skins essentially upgrade the VFX and model, often adding unique animations or sound effects that make it stand out from the original.
There are over 50 Prestige skins in League of Legends, and a round 10-15 Prestige skins have been introduced to the game annually since 2018.
In 2024, Riot pushed the development of the appearance and effects of Prestige skins to a new level, with the introduction of Prestige 2.0.
Given that some of these Prestige skins released in the past have become obsolete and unimpressive, Riot has decided to revamp them with new visual upgrades, pushing Prestige skins to a new level of quality.
How can I get Mythic and Prestige skins?
Mythic shop
Even though there are several methods of obtaining Mythic and Prestige skins, both are most easily and consistently accessible through the Mythic shop which is located in your profile loot.
Mythic shop features exclusive, limited-time offers on Prestige and Mythic skins and other valuable cosmetics including:
- Orange essence
- Blue essence
- Random skins
- Exclusive emotes
- Seasonal Mythic wards skins
- Seasonal borders and icons
- Mythic Chromas + icons (upgrading a Mythic skin)
All of these items are obtainable by spending a certain amount of Mythic essence in the shop.
What is Mythic essence?

Previously present in the form of Gemstones and Prestige Points, Mythic essence is a unified currency used to acquire exclusive Prestige and Mythic skins in League of Legends.
Mythic essence can also be used to acquire other items available in the Mythic shops at lower prices than the skins themselves.
How much Mythic essence do Prestige and Mythic skins cost?
| Appearance in shop | Mythic skins | Prestige skins |
| --- | --- | --- |
| First appearance | 100 Mythic Essence | 125 Mythic Essence |
| Second unvault | 125 Mythic Essence | 150 Mythic Essence |
| Subsequent unvaults | 125 Mythic Essence | 200 Mythic Essence |
The price of Mythic and Prestige skins varies depending on their current rotation status in the rotating Mythic shops, with both increasing in price in every unveiling after the first one.
How to get Mythic essence?
Event missions and passes
Completing event missions and purchasing in-game event passes is undoubtedly the fastest way of acquiring Mythic Essence.
Every League of Legends event release is paired with an in-game pass that has milestone rewards, some of which include ME.
Mathematically speaking, after completing all 50 tiers of an event pass, you can obtain up to 25 Mythic Essence.
Three milestones reward you with 5ME each, starting at event tier 20, with the final 50th tier of the pass awarding you with 10ME.
However, the most straightforward method of obtaining a large amount of Mythic Essence fast is by exchanging your event tokens for ME.
Every League of Legends event pass offers the option of exchanging 2200 event tokens for 125 Mythic essence.
Hextech crafting
Both Hextech and Masterwork chests are a niche, but somewhat consistent method of obtaining Mythic essence.
When opening one of these lootboxes, there is a chance that you will receive a small amount of ME along with your regular loot.
Masterwork chests have a 4.2% chance of dropping 10 Mythic Essence, while Hextech lootboxes have a 3.6% chance of dropping 5 Mythic Essence.
Masterwork milestones
Among many other neat rewards, Masterwork milestones also reward you with Mythic Essence when you open enough Masterwork chests.
| Milestone | Reward |
| --- | --- |
| Level 5 | 5 Mythic Essence |
| Level 10 | 5 Mythic Essence |
| Level 15 | 5 Mythic Essence |
| Level 20 | 5 Mythic Essence |
| Level 25 | 10 Mythic Essence |
Event orbs and capsules
Event orbs and capsules, much like regular lootboxes, have a certain chance of dropping Mythic Essence along with other regular items.
However, the likelihood of receiving ME from event-specific orbs and capsules is 1.5 times higher than regular Hextech crafting.
This makes capsules and orbs a preferred option for crafting if you’re spending event tokens and looking for Mythic Essence.
Levelling
Starting with level 150, Riot rewards you for level milestones with Mythic Essence rewards.
More specifically, you get 10ME for every 50 levels of progression.
Showcase event capsules
Showcase events are relatively different in comparison to regular ones as they are shorter (2 patches long) and are mostly related to a specific skin line promotion.
These events also introduce Showcase capsules, only available for the duration of the event.
These Showcase capsules have a separate milestone opening system, rewarding you with up to 120 Mythic Essence if you complete all of the milestones.
These milestones are non-repeating, unlike Masterwork milestones, and they’re only available for the brief duration of the event.
Mythic shop rotation
Aiming to keep the Mythic shop fresh and exclusive, Riot introduced a rotation system that consistently switches up the skins that are available for purchase.
Mythic shop rotates with every two patches, introducing 4 unvaulted skins per rotation.
This is the current rotation schedule active for the duration of this ranked split.
