LoL Name Checker

Is your Riot ID available? Type a Riot ID (Name#TAG) to see if it is taken, try 20 tags for the same name at once, and find out whether a taken name can ever free up. Checked live on Riot's API.

Type a Riot ID with its tag (for example Faker#KR1) to see if it is taken, or only the name to try 20 tags at once. The check runs on Riot's official API and needs JavaScript; the guide below works without it.

How the LoL Name Checker Works

Type a Riot ID with its tag, for example Faker#KR1, and the checker asks Riot's official API whether an account has it. If nobody does, the name is available. If someone does, you see the League server the account plays on, its level, its Solo/Duo rank and when it was last active.

Leave out the tag to try 20 tags for the same name at once: the region tags players get by default (EUW, NA1, KR1...) and common ones like 000 or 123. A Riot ID is unique across all regions, so you don't pick a region: the checker finds the account's server for you.

A free result is checked again every 10 minutes at most, because anyone can take a free name at any moment. Your saved names stay on your device; we keep no list of who checked what.

Riot ID Rules in 2026: Name, Tag and Length

Riot ID rules in League of Legends (checked October 2026)
RuleWhat it means
FormatName#TAG, for example Faker#KR1. Only the full combination has to be unique.
Name3 to 16 characters.
Tag3 to 5 letters or numbers, written after the #.
Unique acrossAll Riot games and all regions: one Riot ID, one account.
ChangesFree, once every 90 days.
ExpiryNone: a Riot ID is not lost through inactivity.

The checker applies the length rules as you type. Riot also refuses names that break its naming policy, such as offensive words or names that imitate Riot or its staff, which no checker can see in advance.

Do League of Legends Names Expire?

No. Riot IDs don't expire. Riot's support pages say a Riot ID can't be lost due to inactivity, so a name held by an account that stopped playing years ago stays taken.

This changed with Riot IDs. Old summoner names could be released after a long period without playing; that rule ended when League moved to Riot IDs in November 2023. Guides that still promise a date when a name "becomes available" describe the old system.

When Does an Inactive Riot ID Become Free?

Only when Riot deletes the account that holds it. Riot's inactive account deletion works like this:

  1. An account counts as inactive after more than 3 years without a login on any Riot platform.
  2. Riot only puts it in line for automatic deletion if it also has no real-money purchases, less than 20 hours played across Riot games and no limited-edition content.
  3. The owner gets 30 days to stop the deletion by logging in.
  4. After the deletion, its Riot ID and username are available again.

Most accounts with a name worth having fail the second step: a single purchase keeps the account, and its name, forever. The checker's "Will it free up?" line uses the account's last League activity to tell you which case you are probably in.

Same Name, Different Tag: Finding a Free Combo

Two players can have the same name as long as their tags differ. Faker#KR1 and Faker#EUW are two different Riot IDs. If the name you want is taken with one tag, it is often free with another.

Type the name without a tag to try 20 at once. The tag shows after your name in some places of the client, so pick one you are happy to show: a region code, your initials or a number you like.

Why a Name Shows Free but Riot Rejects It

A free result only means that no account has that Riot ID at this moment. Riot can still refuse it when you try to take it:

  • The name breaks Riot's naming rules: offensive or hateful words, or words Riot blocks.
  • It imitates Riot, its employees or a professional player.
  • Someone took it between your check and your change.
  • The tag is not allowed, for example a reserved one.

If Riot refuses a name the checker shows as free, try a different tag or a small change to the name.

How to Change Your LoL Name

You change your League name by changing your Riot ID, for free, once every 90 days. There is no paid name change.

  1. Check here that the Riot ID you want is free.
  2. Sign in to your Riot account on Riot's website and open the Riot ID section.
  3. Type the new name and tag and save.
  4. The new Riot ID shows in League the next time you log in.

The 90 days count from your last change. Riot can make an exception through a support ticket, for example for a name used to harass you.

What Happened to Summoner Names

League replaced summoner names with Riot IDs in November 2023. Each summoner name became the name part of a Riot ID, and players without a tag received one, usually their region code (for example #EUW or #NA1).

That is why many old accounts carry a region tag today, and why names that were unique per server now only need a different tag. Your Riot ID is also the name you use in every other Riot game.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this LoL name available?

Type it with its tag, for example Name#EUW, in the checker at the top of this page. A free result means no account has that Riot ID right now.

Do League names expire in 2026?

No. Riot IDs can't be lost due to inactivity. A taken name only frees up if Riot deletes the account that holds it.

Can two players have the same name?

Yes, with different tags. Only the full Riot ID (name and tag) has to be unique.

Can I check a name without a tag?

Yes. Type only the name and the checker tries 20 common tags at once and shows which are free.

Does the region matter?

No. A Riot ID is unique across all regions and all Riot games, so a name taken on another server is taken for you too.

How often can I change my Riot ID?

Once every 90 days, for free.

What happens to a Riot ID when an account is deleted?

It becomes available again. Riot deletes inactive accounts only after more than 3 years without a login, and only if they have no real-money purchases, less than 20 hours played and no limited-edition content.

Can I take a name from an inactive account?

Not directly. Riot does not hand out names from inactive accounts; the name only frees up if the account is deleted.

Why does the checker say free but Riot says taken or not allowed?

Someone may have taken it after your check, or the name breaks Riot's naming rules, which no checker can see in advance. Try another tag.

Can I see someone's old LoL names?

Not on this page. The checker only answers for the Riot ID you type and keeps no history of names.
