League of Legends rank distribution in Season 2026
The median ranked Solo/Duo player is Gold III, the single most crowded division is Gold IV, and only 4.7% of ranked players reach Diamond or higher. Gold holds 23.4% of the ladder, Silver 20.8% and Platinum 18.4%. Master, Grandmaster and Challenger together are 0.74%.
The numbers on this page are a full count, not a sample: every player who has finished placements in the current split and appears on a ranked ladder, in every region, recounted every day. The chart above shows the same data by division, and the region selector narrows it to one server.
What rank is top 1%, 5% and 10% in League of Legends?
Top 1% of ranked Solo/Duo players is Master or higher, top 5% is Diamond IV or higher and top 10% is Emerald II or higher. The table reads the same daily count as the chart: each row is the lowest rank that still keeps you inside that percentage of the ladder.
| Top | Rank you need |
|---|---|
| Top 0.1% | Grandmaster or higher |
| Top 1% | Master or higher |
| Top 3% | Diamond II or higher |
| Top 5% | Diamond IV or higher |
| Top 10% | Emerald II or higher |
| Top 20% | Emerald IV or higher |
| Top 25% | Platinum II or higher |
| Top 50% | Gold II or higher |
These cut-offs move a little every day as players climb and decay, and they differ by server. Switch the region above the chart to read them for EUW, NA, KR or any other ladder.
Ranks, tiers and divisions at a glance
League of Legends has ten ranked tiers, from lowest to highest: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster and Challenger. Iron to Diamond are split into four divisions each, and division IV is the lowest while division I is the highest, so Gold I is one step below Platinum IV.
- Promotion. Each division is worth 100 LP. Reaching 100 LP moves you up one division; there are no promotion series any more.
- Master and above. Master has no divisions and no cap. Grandmaster and Challenger have a fixed number of spots per region, filled by the highest LP players, and the LP needed to hold one rises through the season; today it is 935 LP for Grandmaster and 1524 LP for Challenger on average across regions.
- Two ranked queues. Solo/Duo and Flex have separate ranks. This page counts Solo/Duo, the rank most players mean.
LP, demotion, decay, placements and the 2026 season rules are explained in full in our guide to LoL ranks in order.
What percentage of players are in each rank?
The table gives each tier's share of all ranked Solo/Duo players and the top percentage it puts you in, counting everyone at that tier or above. "Top" is the figure people mean when they say a rank is "top 5%" or "top 20%".
| Tier | Share of players | Top % (this tier or higher) |
|---|---|---|
| Challenger | 0.018% | 0.018% |
| Grandmaster | 0.042% | 0.060% |
| Master | 0.68% | 0.74% |
| Diamond | 3.9% | 4.7% |
| Emerald | 13.3% | 17.9% |
| Platinum | 18.4% | 36.4% |
| Gold | 23.4% | 59.8% |
| Silver | 20.8% | 80.7% |
| Bronze | 15.7% | 96.4% |
| Iron | 3.6% | 100.0% |
Divisions are not evenly filled. Division IV of most tiers is the fullest: everyone promoted into a new tier starts there, and the protection against dropping a tier keeps many of them there for a while, so the IV to III step is where a lot of climbs stall. The chart above shows the shape division by division.
What is the average rank in League of Legends?
The median Solo/Duo player is Gold III: half of all ranked players sit below that division and half at it or above. People often say "Silver" or "Gold" is average; today's counts put the middle of the ladder at Gold III.
The most common single division is Gold IV. The median and the most common division differ because the ladder is not symmetrical: a long tail of players climbs through Platinum and Emerald, while the bottom is cut off at Iron IV.
If you want to know where your own hidden rating sits compared to these players, the LoL MMR checker turns your MMR into a percentile using the same daily counts.
How rare are Diamond, Master and Challenger?
Reaching Diamond IV puts you in the top 4.7% of ranked players, Diamond I in the top 1.4%, Master in the top 0.74% and Challenger in the top 0.018%. Emerald IV, the rank most players who call themselves high elo reach, is the top 17.9%.
The apex tiers behave differently from the rest of the ladder. Master has no limit on its size, so it grows through the split as players climb. Grandmaster and Challenger keep a fixed number of spots per region, which means their share of the ladder only moves when the total number of ranked players changes, and the LP needed to hold a spot keeps rising until the split ends.
How we count the players
Once a day our server reads Riot's official ranked ladders for Solo/Duo in every region and counts the players in every tier and division. Riot does not publish a player count per rank, so the count is made from the ladder itself.
- Iron to Diamond. Riot lists each division in pages of 205 players. We find the last page of every division with a doubling and binary search, which gives the exact number of players in about 14 requests per division instead of reading every page.
- Master, Grandmaster and Challenger. These are read whole from their league lists, and we store the lowest LP in Grandmaster and Challenger, which is the real cut-off to enter them that day. Riot lists at most 10,000 Master players per region, so on the largest servers the Master players below that cut are estimated from the LP spread of the lowest ones listed, and marked with ≈.
- Regions. Every live server is counted. Servers that Riot merged into another answer with the same ladder, so we detect them and count them once.
- Schedule. The count runs every day, one region after another, and the page always shows the latest completed count for each region.
- Open data. The latest worldwide count is available as a CSV file. You are free to use it with a link back to this page.
This is a count of ranked players, not of games. Sites that build their distribution from matches they have analysed weight active players more heavily, which is why their numbers can differ from ours by a few points. A player who placed in Silver and stopped playing counts once here, the same as a player with 500 games.
Rank distribution by region
Each server has its own ladder and its own shape. Use the region selector above the chart to switch from the worldwide view to a single server; the table under the chart lists how many ranked Solo/Duo players each region has today.
Smaller servers tend to have a larger share of players in Master and above, because the apex tiers keep a minimum number of spots regardless of how many people play there. Large servers such as EUW, NA and KR are the best guide to what a rank means, because their ladders are deep enough for the percentages to be stable from day to day.
Why the ladder is shaped like this
Ranks are not handed out to hit a target curve; they are the result of Riot's LP system and of how often each group of players queues. A few forces shape the ladder you see in the chart.
- Placement and the starting point. New ranked players are placed from their hidden MMR, and the default starting rating sits in the Silver to Gold range, so the middle of the ladder is where most accounts begin.
- LP gains follow MMR. Players whose hidden rating is higher than their rank gain more LP per win and climb until the two match. The ladder therefore reflects skill as the matchmaker sees it, with a lag.
- Division IV is sticky. A promotion lands you in division IV of the new tier, and the protection against dropping straight back down keeps players there for a few games, so the entry division of each tier fills up.
- Apex tiers are capped. Grandmaster and Challenger have a fixed number of spots per region and the LP needed to hold one rises through the split.
- Emerald split Platinum. Since 2023 Emerald sits between Platinum and Diamond, which is why Diamond today is a much smaller group than it was before.
- Riot's 2026 MMR-to-rank change. In March 2026 Riot explained that it wants every rank to hold a similar spread of skill, and it moved experienced players out of Iron into Bronze so Iron works as a learning rank, and moved the strongest Diamond players up into Master. That is why Iron is a small tier today. Riot's own write-up is the /dev: MMR-to-Rank Distribution post.
How the distribution changes during a split
At the start of a split ranks are reset lower and the ladder is thin, so every tier looks smaller and Iron and Bronze look fuller than they will a month later. As players finish placements and climb back to their rating, the ladder fills and the curve moves up.
- First weeks. Player counts grow every day and the median rank rises as returning players catch up with their MMR.
- Mid split. The shape settles; day to day changes are a fraction of a percent.
- Late split. Decay removes inactive Diamond and apex players and the Grandmaster and Challenger cut-offs climb.
Because this page counts every day, you can come back and compare. The date of the latest count is shown next to the chart.
Rank distribution and MMR
Your rank is where you are on this ladder; your MMR is where the matchmaker thinks you belong. The two usually agree within a division, but after a winning or losing streak they can drift apart, and that is when LP gains get unusually large or small.
The LoL MMR checker estimates your hidden rating and shows the percentile of players below it, calculated from these counts. For ARAM, which has no ranked ladder, use the ARAM MMR checker. The maths behind both is on the methodology page.

How often is the rank distribution updated?
Every day. Our server recounts every region's Solo/Duo ladder once a day and the page shows the latest completed count. The last count is from 24 September 2026.
Where does the data come from?
From Riot's official ranked ladders, read through the Riot Games API. We count every player listed in every tier and division of every region; nothing is sampled. The only estimate is the part of Master that Riot does not list on the largest servers, marked with ≈.
Why is this different from League of Graphs or other sites?
Many sites build their distribution from matches they have analysed, which weights active players more. We count every ranked player once, so inactive low-rank players are included and the lower tiers look a little larger.
Does the distribution include Flex queue?
No. The page counts ranked Solo/Duo only, the queue most people mean when they talk about their rank.
How do I find my percentile?
Find your tier and division in the chart above and read its top percentage, or enter your Riot ID in the LoL MMR checker to see the percentile of your estimated MMR.
