Free champions this week

From September 22, 2026, 20 champions are free to play in League of Legends for every account at level 11 or higher: Ahri, Bel'Veth, Hecarim, Janna, Jinx, Karma, Karthus, Kled, Milio, Nasus, Syndra, Twitch, Varus, Vel'Koz, Vi, Viktor, Wukong, Yasuo, Yone and Ziggs.

Accounts from level 1 to 10 get a separate beginner rotation of 20 champions: Caitlyn, Diana, Jinx, Kai'Sa, Leona, Malphite, Mordekaiser, Pantheon, Rammus, Sejuani, Sett, Sona, Syndra, Talon, Teemo, Tristana, Vi, Viktor, Yuumi and Ziggs.

This list went live before September 24, 2026, when we started tracking it. We read it from the Riot Games API (champion-v3) every 15 minutes in every server, so the tool above changes on its own when Riot swaps the rotation. Last check: September 24, 2026, 15:30 UTC.

When does the free champion rotation change?

Riot changes the free champion rotation once a week, on Tuesday. The next change is expected on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The countdown at the top of the page follows the time we saw the current list go live, so it is accurate to within 15 minutes once we have seen one change.

The list is the same across servers: this week all 14 servers we check have the same list. Riot keeps Europe and North America aligned, which is why the history on this page follows EUW.

Riot has moved the day in the past to avoid a US holiday, and has added extra champions for events (the six Arcane champions in November 2021, the 40 original champions for the 10th anniversary in October 2019). When that happens the tool shows the real list, extras included.

How the free champion rotation works

• About 10% of the roster. The rotation holds 20 champions, 21 when a new champion is in it. Riot raised it from 10 to 14 in 2017 and to 15 in 2019 before settling on 20.
• Every mode except Ranked. Free champions work in Normal Draft, Swiftplay, ARAM and the other unranked queues. In Ranked you can only lock in champions you own.
• New champions arrive about three weeks after release. Riot keeps a new champion out of the rotation for its first weeks, then adds it on top of the usual 20.
• Nothing to claim. Free champions show up in champion select on their own. When the week ends they leave your pool unless you buy them with Blue Essence or RP.
• New accounts get their own list. Up to level 10 you see the beginner rotation instead of the weekly one. At level 11 you switch to the weekly list.

The new player rotation (level 1 to 10)

League of Legends gives low level accounts their own rotation instead of the weekly one. Riot reports this list and its level cap in the same API call as the weekly rotation. Right now it has 20 champions: Caitlyn, Diana, Jinx, Kai'Sa, Leona, Malphite, Mordekaiser, Pantheon, Rammus, Sejuani, Sett, Sona, Syndra, Talon, Teemo, Tristana, Vi, Viktor, Yuumi and Ziggs.

If you are level 10 or lower and the champions in your client do not match the weekly list above, this is why: switch the tool to New players to see yours. Once you reach level 11 the weekly rotation replaces it.

Try before you buy: what this week's champions cost

The free rotation is the cheapest way to find out whether a champion suits you before spending Blue Essence. This week the free champions cost between 675 and 2,400 Blue Essence. The cheapest are Janna, Nasus, Vi and Yasuo; the most expensive are Hecarim, Kled, Milio, Varus, Viktor and Ziggs.

Free champion rotation history since 2009

The lookup above knows 683 rotations. Every week from November 2009 to 2021, and the rotations the editors recorded from 2022 to February 2025, come from the League of Legends Wiki archive (CC BY-SA). Every rotation since September 24, 2026 is recorded by LoLValue straight from the Riot API. The weeks between are not in any public archive we could verify, so they are left out rather than guessed.

Which champions are free most often?

Counting every rotation in our records, the champions that have been free the most weeks are Ashe (113 weeks), Sivir (108 weeks), Taric (97 weeks), Morgana (94 weeks) and Janna (92 weeks). Among champions released before 2021, the ones that were free the fewest weeks are Seraphine (6 weeks), Lillia (8 weeks), Rell (10 weeks), Samira (12 weeks) and Yuumi (12 weeks).

Riot does not publish how it picks the rotation. Older champions have simply had more weeks to appear, and a few were held out for long stretches before a rework (Poppy, Sion, Twitch, Evelynn and Karma, according to the wiki) or for balance reasons.

Do I keep a free champion after the rotation ends?

No. When the rotation changes the champion leaves your pool. You can buy it with Blue Essence or RP, and the card in the tool shows both prices.
